A place where the past meets the present.
The Mrak Homestead and Gallery (Mrakova domačija) is a well-preserved example of 17th-century vernacular architecture and an important part of the cultural heritage of the Rečica village. The characteristic design of the homestead and its surroundings tell the story of the life, work and values of an established farming family through generations.
Today, the homestead offers a space where the past is not presented through historical facts, but experienced through setting and atmosphere.
WHERE A STORY BECOMES LIFE
Mrak Homestead and Gallery
At the Mrak Homestead and Gallery, you will not observe a story – you will step into it as it unfolds through space. Life, work, and art are not separate entities; here, they merge into a single experience.
The story begins with the house.
The house remains the central symbol of the homestead – a bearer of memories and a witness to the generations who lived and worked here. Its form and presence reveal the world that is also serves as the origin and source of Slavko Oblak’s art.
RETURN TO THE OPEN SPACE
The barn and garden as a continuation of the experience
The renovated barn is transformed into a gallery featuring works by academic sculptor Slavko Oblak, thereby translating the story of the homestead into artistic expression. The garden extends this immersive experience, inviting visitors to step into nature, the rhythm of the seasons, and open space.
The homestead is conceived as an interconnected whole: the house as origin and memory, the gallery as a space of interpretation and artistic expression, and the garden as a boundless, open experience. Rather than offering a glimpse into the past, the Mark Homestead is a place where heritage is reinterpreted and meaningfully connected with the present.
